Design Ideas Names Winner of “Be A GelGems Designer” Contest

Stacy Parsons of Portland Wins National Be A GelGems Designer Contest

Springfield, IL (June 8, 2007) – Design Ideas, a company known for its colorful GelGems Window Clings, has named Stacy Parsons of Portland, Oregon the winner of their national “Be A GelGems Designer Contest.”

Stacy’s design, titled “Spacey’s Big City,” depicts the city of Portland, in honor of her recent relocation from a small town in Montana. “Portland is such a big city compared to Great Falls, Montana,” Stacy explains. “There is a lot of opportunity here for me, and I’m excited to take advantage of it. That is what inspired my design.” Already a skilled woodworker, painter, welder and graphic artist, Stacy is not a newcomer to the world of art and design. She hopes one day soon to attend the Art Institute in Portland to prepare for a career in the arts. “A lot of greatness has come out of that school,” says Stacy.

The yearlong contest was launched in February 2006 on www.gelgems.com. Participants were asked to visit the website and create and submit an original design that would be produced into a bag of GelGems Window Clings to be marketed and sold internationally. Of the hundreds of designs submitted, two per month were chosen to be featured on the website as “finalists.” After the contest ended, the 24 finalists’ designs were judged on creativity, originality, and their ability to be reworked and produced into an actual bag of GelGems. Stacy Parsons, age 20, of Portland, Oregon, submitted the winning design.

Stacy’s grand prize for her winning design will be free bags of her GelGems to keep or share with her family and friends, as well as a commission from the sales of her design. “The money I receive from the sales of the design will help me reach my goals of attending the Institute,” says Stacy, “but better than the money is the fact that my design was chosen. It’s pretty cool.”
